RI Group completes the delivery of modules for rescEU CBRN-DSIM-IT

RI Group has contributed to the development of the new European rescEU CBRN-DSIM-IT response capacity, an Italian-led initiative designed to strengthen the response capabilities of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism in the event of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies. The project is operationally coordinated by the Italian National Fire and Rescue Service, with ENEA providing coordination as well as administrative and scientific support.

The programme is based on cooperation between institutions, research organisations, healthcare facilities and highly specialised industrial partners. Among them is RI Group, involved in the development and production of the vehicles and solutions designed for this new European capability.

A fleet of 11 special vehicles and mobile laboratories

The project includes a fleet of 11 highly technological special vehicles and mobile laboratories, each designed to perform specific functions within a CBRN emergency scenario.

The fleet includes systems for the Detection, Sampling, Identification and Monitoring of hazardous substances, mobile chemical, biological and radiological laboratories, as well as units dedicated to decontamination, medical support, communications and logistics for operational teams.

The design and development of the most complex vehicles required several months of work, testing and verification. The Italian National Fire and Rescue Service specifically identifies RI Group and Tomassini Style among the industrial partners involved in their construction.

Technology and modularity supporting European safety

The delivery of the modules represents an important milestone for RI Group within a strategic European project in which design, production capabilities, logistics and technology must operate in a fully integrated way.

The new rescEU capability has been designed to operate even in complex scenarios and far beyond national borders, through interconnected vehicles and an operational structure capable of providing monitoring, analysis, communications and support to teams working in the field.

The project, funded by the European Commission with approximately €27 million over three years, also includes operator training programmes, virtual and augmented reality technologies and digital twins of the vehicles, with the aim of simulating and managing particularly complex emergency scenarios.

A project already deployed during Milano Cortina 2026

Some of the vehicles and laboratories in the new fleet have already been deployed as part of the security activities connected with the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

During the Olympic Games, rescEU vehicles were positioned at strategic locations in Milan to support CBRN risk monitoring. During the Paralympic Games, part of the fleet was also presented to the public in Verona.

RI Group’s participation in the rescEU CBRN-DSIM-IT project confirms its contribution to the development of specialised modular solutions for operational environments where reliability, rapid deployment and adaptability are essential requirements.
